Tell the story of how your business was founded.
“Since 1993, I have held various insurance ‘adjusting’ licenses where I was representing the insurance companies (for homeowner or commercial property claims). When I was working for these insurance companies, they would have these ‘guidelines’ which always seemed to benefit the insurance company itself, not the person or entity which suffered a property loss. What people don’t realize is you can have your own hired adjuster, and the license which Carolina Claims Consulting has is called a ‘public adjuster’ license. This license is regulated by the Department of Insurance in North and South Carolina.
So after working for many different insurance companies, I decided to start helping people get the true settlement which they are entitled to (per their insurance contract). I must say, it has been very rewarding sharing my experiences and knowledge of how the property insurance ‘adjusting’ process works. The founding partners have over 45 years’ experience in the insurance adjusting industry.”
How is your business innovating and providing something new?
“I truly feel that Carolina Claims Consulting will be on the front line of changing how the public deals with their property insurance claims. I want the public to know that they can be on the same level playing field as the BIG insurance companies. These multi-billion-dollar insurance companies are not your friend, trust me; no matter how many television commercials make you feel warm and fuzzy inside.
About 98% of the public here in the Carolinas are not aware that public adjusting is available, and we want to change that. We use a claim management system where our clients have 24/7 access. This claim management system provides up to the minute updates of their claim. We use the same estimating system which most of the insurance companies use directly. We want to stay ahead of the game for our clients by using policy interpretation databases and other types of educational materials which assist us during the adjustment process.”
When did you first feel successful?
“This is an easy answer; when one of my clients teared up because I was able to help her.”
What advice would you give someone who wants to start a business?
“These six rules were said by Arnold Schwarzenegger during a college graduation speech and I embrace each one of them. I believe you need all of these when starting a business. (1) Trust yourself (2) Break Some Rules (not laws, think outside the box) (3) Don’t Be Afraid To Fail (I personally believe this is the best one) (4) Ignore The Naysayers (some people love to doubt and see people fail, don’t listen to them; believe in yourself) (5) Work Like Hell (if you find a passion, this should be easy) (6) Give Something Back (Carolina Claims Consulting plans to start a local charity in the near future)”
What has been the key to your company’s success?
“I would say truly believe you can do anything, be anything, accomplish anything, and you can make a difference on this earth. After that, everything falls into place.”
